Background: Kiwanis Camp Wa-Ri-Ki is located on 18 acres along the beautiful Washougal River. The camp is primarily used by youth groups, schools and other community groups and has recently increased their focus on outdoor school programs, including the NASA Globe program.
The Southwest Region of Washington State reflects the ancestral and modern homes of First Peoples including the Cowlitz, Yakima, and Klickitat tribes. The First Peoples of Skamania County called themselves Chilluckittequw. We acknowledge that we are on the ancestral, modern lands and traditional territories of the Chilluckittequw People.

General Description of the position:
With both great communication and organizational skills, the Camp Director provides leadership in program development and implementation independently and through coordination with Washington Outdoor School Coalition, the NASA Globe Program, local school districts and other entities. The Camp Director also builds relationships in the local business and camping community to raise the Camp Wa-Ri-Ki’s visibility and access to effective partnerships. The Camp Director ensures that activities at the camp run smoothly and that adherence to all policies and protocols is maintained.
Position Purpose:
To further the mission of Camp Wa-Ri-Ki through the development and management of program, human resource, financial, marketing, and strategic operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Lead the organization through the Accreditation process with the American Camp Association.
- Maintain membership in the ACA.
- Attends relevant seminars and workshops (virtual or in person) on ACA accreditation.
- Either independently, or with support, completes the ACA accreditation process.
- Design, manage, and evaluate camp programs that meet the needs and interests of the camp’s target populations and ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
- Complete the NASA Globe Protocol Training.
- Remain current with information on the developmental needs of youth.
- Annually seek and analyze input from youth, families, and staff regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of the program and staff.
- Develop and implement crisis and risk management procedures.
- Design and ensure delivery of programs and activities appropriate to the camper
- Collaborate with the Executive Board to determine adequate annual funding and to meet long-term goals.
- Develop and monitor budget for the camp operations.
- Work with Board to manage and support grant writing to benefit camp programs, maintenance, and activities.
- Implement human resource management practices to recruit and retain seasonal and year-round staff.
- Recruit staff based on camper enrollment and program management requirements.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate temporary, volunteer, and year-round staff.
- Maintain training records for all employees/volunteers.
- Manage property maintenance needs to ensure stewardship of current resources and identification of future needs.
- Conduct annual assessment of property and maintenance needs.
- Prioritize maintenance needs in conjunction with the staff and Board.
- Prepare annual and long-term property recommendations.
- Oversee the daily operation of activities at the camp including food service, program, business, camper and staff supervision, and medical needs.
- Oversee the management of the food service area through supervision of Camp Host and review of food service program.
- Oversee the business management functions of the camp including financial record keeping and office operations.
- Oversee the systematic approach to data base management for campers, families, alumni, and donors.
- Work with Camp Host to ensure the quality of the camp operations.
- Able to work flexible hours and commit to meeting the needs of the camp between the months of April and September, including weekends.
- No vacations will be authorized during April to September.
Other Job Duties:
This job may include work in other areas of the organization, involvement in professional associations, and/or work with other partner organizations.
Relationships:
Engage with businesses, schools, and other government entities to ensure Kiwanis Camp Wa-Ri-Ki is well-known and can develop effective partnerships as needed for programs and operations.
Equipment Used:
Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office) and ability to manage social media.
Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)
The successful applicant for this position will:
- Have a college degree or equivalent-related life experiences and organizational administrative experience.
- Have at least four years’ experience in a youth camp setting or equivalent.
- Have at least two years of successful supervisory experience.
Preferred knowledge, skills and experience are:
- Experience with outdoor environmental programs.
- Experience in writing and managing grants is a plus.

Prior to being offered a position, the successful applicant will need to:
- Pass drug screen and background check, including the sex offender registry.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
REQUIRED within 30 days of hire:
Obtain a food handlers license for the State of Washington (reimbursable expense).
Obtain First Aid/CPR certification (reimbursable expense).
Complete all required training for personnel policies, including Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect Policy prior to working with any camp groups.
Ongoing Requirements:
Background Check, including criminal and sex offender registry (annual)
Maintain a valid driver’s license (annual)

Review of all personnel policies (annual)
First Aid/CPR (biennial)
A minimum of 8 hours of professional development (annual)
DURING EMPLOYMENT
Any grievances are to be made in writing to the President of the Board. The President of the Board will work with the Executive Committee to understand, evaluate, and address any grievances raised.
A person in this position is a mandatory reporter for child abuse and neglect.
No individual with a felony conviction may be employed at Camp Wa-Ri-Ki.
The person in this position, if accused of a felony, must immediately report that to the Board and may not interact with campers/guests/renters and will be assigned non-contact duties, if available. If no such duties are available, the employee will be put on unpaid leave. An employee convicted of a felony will be immediately terminated without severance.

Salary Information: Position initially Is a 6-month contract with review at 3 months
Half Time 80 hours per month. $2,165-$2350 per month.
