We see so many images of campers having fun at the Wa-Ri-Ki, that sometimes we forget the tremendous volunteer effort that goes on behind the scenes. There are many, many volunteers and benefactors involved and we are grateful to them all — we’ll mention a few here, and continue to highlight examples in future posts.

The Board of Directors

The Board (all volunteers) met in November (they meet monthly) and elected a new slate of officers.  Elections held November 17th 2014 elected Michael McNulty as president , Jamie Wick as treasurer, Melissa Cole as secretary for  2015 . The annual budget was discussed and the Marketing Committee and the Development Committee made presentations focusing on Camp growth and needed repairs and upgrades.

Camp Wa-Ri-Ki Board

The Camp Wa-Ri-Ki Board meets regularly to attend to Camp Business and Growth matters. Left to Right: Marsha Sherman, Phyllis Goldhammer (Camp Director); Jamie Wick (new Treasurer), and Michael McNulty (the new President of the Board).  Other Board Members not shown are Ken Rowe (Chairman of Marketing Committee), Val Schaffroth (Past President), Melissa Cole (Secretary), Sandy Hensley, Bob Kuzma, and Roger Main

Those That Made Our First Wine Tasting Benefit Possible

Val Schafroth and Michael McNulty from the board led the recent fundraiser effort, held at Cellar 55 in Vancouver.  We sol enough tickets and related fundraising items to secure our matching grant from the generous Firstenburg Foundation with the help of the Mankind organization who stepped up to fill the gap to get to the matching amount.  Camp Director, Phyllis Goldhammer, obtained a number of door prizes for the event.  And a big thanks to our friends at Cellar 55, who provided the venue and fundraising opportunity.

Watch for similar events in the coming year — the Board is discussing making the Wine Tasting a fun event in our annual fundraising work.

Of course there are many other heroes who work behind the scenes and other generous donors who make Camp Wa-Ri-Ki possible, and we’ll check in with them and tell their story in our posts here and newsletter (do sign up for our newsletter), throughout the year.
